![]() For me at least, the Ranger archetype/power fantasy leans into both stealth and perception skills. Survival isn't a super important skill but it also helps with that. I'd throw 12 in Wis because that's an important save, it governs perception, and it governs your spells. All RP concerns are secondary to living and 12 in your quaternary stat vs a 10 is really not a big deal. I'd say throw the 14 in Con I never build a character with less than 14 starting Con after racial ASIs just because I want the character to live. You don't really need much of a spell save but you really do want to be able to maintain concentration on Hunter's Mark and take a hit or two, IMO. I actually think Con is equal to if not more important than Wis for a ranger. As in like, 13 or less Dex is really one of those meme WhAt If My MaIn StAt WaS a DuMp StAt builds (this is not including STRanger which is actually fine, because OP said Dex Ranger). You're going to want at least 14 Dex at an absolute minimum as a Ranger. Since you asked how I would do it I would probably do this: STR > CHA > INT. ![]() ![]() At many of my tables social encounters are done based off of the players ability to roleplay and not the charisma stat It should be extremely important but it really depends if you're DM is using social encounters correctly. Measures the force of your personality, how much people remember you, and your willpower to remain on the plane that you're in. I also feel like intelligent to the source of creativity artistry.Ĭharisma - charisma in interesting stat. So if you want your characters be knowledgeable about things like nature, then prioritize intelligence. Intelligence - intelligence isn't that useful except for knowledge checks, such a history nature or arcana. The only skill they strength uses is athletic but if you're on the receiving end of a gravel check then you can always use your Acrobat text till two wiggle out. I strength the 15 would let you jump 15 feet and a strength to 20 with let you jump 20 feet. Strength - I don't think you need strength very much but I would make sure that you have a minimum of 10 and strength so you can at least jump then feet. I would recommend this next as it affects your hit points as well as your Constitution saving throws which are one of the three most frequent saves.Īt this point I would really base the rest of my abilities scores off of how I want to roleplay my character. Making your wisdom your next high step is excellent for your spell saved disease as well as wisdom saving throws which is one of the three most frequent saving throws. The high decks will give you a good armor class and initiative and dex saving throw. Your character looks like it's going to focus mainly on ranged attacks although you could use a finesse weapon to attack in melee. I really want the two highest to be 15 DEX then 14 WIS Wasted?Īnyways - How would you distribute 8,9,11,12,14,15 to a DEX-centered ranger? I don't want to have low CON so I might make it my third priority, but I really don't know if strength is useful.? I'm planning to go exclusively for DEX weapons to have the stat serve for both close and long range combat, so STR seems. INT is overall a weird stat I think? I've only ever seen Wizards builds using that stuff for casting, but not much elsewhere I mean - sure, CHA is really important overall - but I already stated my character will be grumpy AF and we have a rogue who said he was going to be the charisma-bomb of the party, so I think there's better use for my points. Going backwards from "I assume this is not useful", do Rangers require INT or CHA for anything class-specific? I really want the two highest to be 15 DEX then 14 WIS, but the problem is the other 4 friggin stats I have no idea what to do, lol. ![]() Let's assume I rolled some numbers! specifically: 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15 (assume I did the roll 6 throws of 4d6 taking out the lowest value from each throw) We haven't rolled stats yet, BUT I kind of had different takes on stat distribution for a ranger as I looked up stuff, and well. DISCLAIMER: I'm not really minmaxing, just trying not to screw up too much of my character sheet ![]()
